Orange Chicken- my favorite food to love and hate. It's one of those foods that is so good while you're eating it but makes you feel completely miserable about an hour later. I have made fruit glazes before just by simply simmering them down into a glossy sauce and thought why not try to make an orange glaze for orange chicken that isn't filled with a bunch of additives, sodium and those bloat-inducing ingredients! This recipe is way more simple than you'd think. It takes almost zero skillset, is Paleo and Whole30 friendly, family friendly, and will save you money from all that Chinese take out you are used to getting!
Ingredient Breakdown for Healthy Orange Chicken
Orange Juice- either freshly squeezed or store-bought (pay attention to ingredients! I used an orange juice that was squeezed in the store and had no added sugar! It's supposed to be healthier, right? 🤷♀️)
Chicken Tenderloin Strips, cut into bite-size pieces
Soy Sauce or Coconut Aminos
(optional) A tiny bit of honey for added sweetness
Serve with fried rice, Chinese noodles, stir-fried veggies, or on its own!
Tips for Recipe Success
Be patient!!! This recipe requires you to simmer the orange juice down for a while! It's as simple as that! But it takes a while. You want the juice to reduce by at least half and get thick and syrupy! You don't need to stand over it the whole time, but keep an eye on it! Good things come in time! (It's still quicker than the Chinese delivery!)
Cook the chicken with whatever method you're most comfortable with! Cook it on the stove, in the oven, in the air fryer, boil it...?? Whatever works best for you! The sauce is boss in this recipe!
